Sustainability Initiatives
BiobiN® food waste composting initiative
Implementing a closed-loop organic waste management approach using the BiobiN® system at Le Méridien Putrajaya to segregate and collect food waste for composting. This approach diverts organic waste from landfill, repurposes operational waste into a usable landscape input, reduces reliance on external soil supplements, and supports soil regeneration and biodiversity enhancement.
World Environment Day Tree Planting
In conjunction with World Environment Day, our hotels participated in a collaboration between IOIPG and Marriott International Business Council in a tree-planting initiative at 16 Sierra Puchong South, bringing together more than 100 employees, business partners and community volunteers. Trees were planted across eight locations in the township to enhance green spaces, provide shade, reduce air pollution and support carbon sequestration, while encouraging community participation in biodiversity conservation. Species planted included Aquilaria malaccensis (Gaharu), categorised as Critically Endangered, and Mangifera caesia (Binjai), categorised as Near Threatened in IUCN Red List. The event also supported SDG11 (sustainable cities and communities), SDG13 (climate action), SDG15 (life on land) and SDG17 (partnership for the goals) of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This initiative aligns with the IOI Sustain Roadmap 2030, aiming to improve the environmental ecosystem and community well-being.
